چکیده

■ ■ Reliable and reproducible measurement of the enantiomeric and/or diastereomeric ratios. IN T RO DU C T IO N The development of analytical methods for the separation of chiral compounds is important in many areas of research, as it is well known that different enantiomers are selectively biologically active. Biochemical reactions can be diastereo or enantioselective. While one isomer may deliver the desired effect to the target species, the other enantiomer may be less effective to the target, completely ineffective, or cause undesirable effects. Additionally, it is known that different isomers can have very different environmental fates. It is estimated that 20 to 30% of pesticides on the market today have optical isomers, and there are reports that 40% of the pesticides used in China are chiral. The study of enantioselectivity is important to the crop protection industry, since the knowledge of the efficacy of each individual enantiomer could facilitate a significant reduction in the total amount of pesticide applied.

Fast Separation of Triacylglycerols in Oils using UltraPerformance Convergence Chromatography (UPC2)

IN T RO DU C T IO N UltraPerformance Convergence ChromatographyTM (UPC2®) is a novel technology that applies the performance advantages of UPLC to supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC). Combining the use of supercritical CO2 with sub-2-μm particle columns, UPC2 represents an analysis technique that is orthogonal to reversed-phase LC and can be used to solve many troublesome separations that ...

Fast and Green - CO2 Based Extraction, Isolation, and Quantification of Phenolic Styrax Constituents.

In this study the first supercritical fluid based protocol for the extraction, analysis, and isolation of six polar compounds, i.e., o-vanillin (1), styracin (2), vanillin (3), trans-cinnamic acid (4), vanillic acid (5), and shikimic acid (6), was developed. First, eight styrax resin products (R1-R8) obtained from various Liquidambar tree species, which are known to contain compounds 2-6, were ...

Isomeric Separations of Cyclometalated Iridium (III) Complexes Using the ACQUITY UPC2 System

IN T RODUC T ION Synthesis and characterization of cyclometalated iridium (III) complexes in organic light emitting display (OLED) applications is of great interest, as these complexes display high emission quantum yields and can be readily colortuned through systematic modification of the ligands using facile syntheses. Depending on the types of ligands surrounding the central iridium atom, th...

Novel antifungal drug discovery based on targeting pathways regulating the fungus-conserved Upc2 transcription factor.

Infections by Candida albicans and related fungal pathogens pose a serious health problem for immunocompromised patients. Azole drugs, the most common agents used to combat infections, target the sterol biosynthetic pathway. Adaptation to azole therapy develops as drug-stressed cells compensate by upregulating several genes in the pathway, a process mediated in part by the Upc2 transcription fa...
